Fisher-Hill’s Literacy Program – Last week, I got a call from a customer asking about Fisher Hill’s English Literacy Program for Spanish-speaking teens and adult. Anytime you have questions about our books, please give me a call or email and I will be glad to answer your questions.

For the English Literacy Program, it is important to use the English Reading and Spelling for the Spanish Speaker Book 1 first. Book 1 begins to teach the forty-four speech sounds that are used in English reading. By learning these speech sounds and the letters that go with them (phonics), students can blend sounds to read and spell. Eighty percent of English words follow these speech sound rules but many of the high frequency words in English do not.

When using Fisher Hill’s English literacy program, complete English Reading and Spelling for the Spanish Speaker Book 1 before starting English Reading Comprehension for the Spanish Speaker Book 1 or English Reading Composition for the Spanish Speaker Book 1 or English Vocabulary for the Spanish Speaker Book 1. After you have completed English Reading and Spelling for the Spanish Speaker Book 1, it does not matter which of the other Book 1s you use next. When you have completed all four Book 1s then begin with English Reading and Spelling for the Spanish Speaker Book 2. After completing Book 2, then you can begin English Reading Comprehension for the Spanish Speaker Book 2, English Writing Composition for the Spanish Speaker Book 2 and English Vocabulary for the Spanish Speaker Book 2. After those four books are completed then you can continue in the same manner with the Book 3s.

Fisher Hill’s four workbook series English for the Spanish Speaker is not a part of Fisher Hill’s English Literacy Program. English for the Spanish Speaker series (the books with the flower on the cover) is an ESL program. Whereas the English Literacy Program is a literacy program to teach Spanish speakers how to read and write.
