English Writing for Spanish Speakers

Fisher Hill has a six book workbook series call English Writing Composition for the Spanish Speaker https://fisher-hill.com/product-category/composition/. This series was written to help Spanish speakers improve their English writing skills.  The series uses a structured and systematic approach in teaching the different writing skills. English Writing Composition for the Spanish Speaker Book 1 begins by teaching basic sentence structure, progresses to longer, more detailed sentences, and ends with students writing informative paragraphs.  The final book in the series (Book 6) includes instruction and practice for writing compound and complex sentences. It also provides instruction and practice for writing essays. By the time students finish the six-book writing series, they will be able to compose informative, operational, and persuasive essays.  These six workbooks are full of writing activities and graphic organizers to help students improve their writing skills.

English Writing Composition for the Spanish Speaker is part of Fisher Hill’s Structured Literacy Program for Spanish speaking teens and adults to learn how to read and write in English https://fisher-hill.com/structured-literacy-program/ The series is geared toward Spanish speakers, but students of all languages can benefit from this program.  The series has six levels.   Each level has four workbooks:

 The first book to use at each level is the Reading and Spelling workbook  https://fisher-hill.com/product-category/reading-and-spelling/. The program uses a very systematic, explicit approach to teaching the forty-four English speech sounds.  After completing the Reading and Spelling workbook, students are ready to practice reading by using the Reading Comprehension https://fisher-hill.com/product-category/comprehension/ workbook or writing by using the Writing Composition https://fisher-hill.com/product-category/composition/ workbook.  The Vocabulary https://fisher-hill.com/product-category/vocabulary/ workbook reviews the vocabulary at each level. After completing the six levels, students will have an excellent foundation in English literacy. After clicking on Teacher Resources, then click on Reading and Spelling and scroll down until you reach the placement tests.  There are also instructions on how to use the placement tests.

Adults like our workbooks because the pace is reasonable, print is large, directions are in Spanish, there’s lots of pictures but the content is for adults.  Teachers like our books because everything is ready to go!  There’s an answer key at the the end of each lesson and an English translation of the Spanish directions at the end of each book.
