Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States. There are more than 37 million native Spanish speakers in the United States. Mexico, United States’ southern neighbor, is the largest Spanish speaking country. The United States has the second largest Spanish-speaking population in the world after Mexico.

Speaking Spanish is a great help in the workforce and in everyday life. Fisher Hill has a series called Spanish Made Fun and Easy. The series consists of two workbooks.  The workbooks were written for beginning students; for the people who wants to brush up on Spanish; or for Spanish speakers who want to learn how to read and write Spanish.

There are twelve lessons in each workbook.  Each lesson deals with an everyday theme.  At the end of the books are two dictionaries: Spanish-English and English-Spanish.

Each lesson has eight pages.

The first pageof each lesson is a vocabulary list.  Beginning Spanish is included as well as the vocabulary of the particular theme. The definite article is placed in front of each Spanish noun on the list letting the student know whether it is a feminine or masculine noun.

The second pageof each lesson is a conversation that uses the new vocabulary in a common situation.

The third pageof each lesson is a story related to the theme that reinforces the vocabulary and the conversation.

The fourth pageof each lesson is an exercise that requires choosing a word from the vocabulary list and then writing it in a sentence that is missing that word.

The next three pagesof the lesson are a variety of activity pages.

At the end of each lesson, are the answers to the exercises.

It is recommended that students do one lesson per week but pupils can go through the book more rapidly if they so desire.  The speed at which a student learns Spanish depends on the student.  It would be useful to read the conversation and story out loud to gain smoothness.

Also, students should listen to Spanish television. It is very important to listen to and speak with Spanish speakers.  Students will be able to practice Spanish and also improve their accents.  Children learn quickly to speak another language because most children are not bothered by the mistakes they make in speaking. It is important to take advantage of every opportunity to speak.
