Fisher Hill publishers has a new email address.  It is [email protected].  Fisher Hill publishes easy to use workbooks for Spanish-speaking teens and adults to learn English.

Fisher Hill has a series called English for the Spanish Speaker. This is a series with four workbooks.  Each book in the series has eight lessons.  In Books 1 and 2, the lessons are about every day activities. In Books 3 and 4, four lessons are about every day activities and the other four are about United States history or government.  The print in the workbooks is large.  The reading level in Book 1 is at the first and second grade level.  The books get progressively more difficult.  The reading level for Book 4 is at the fourth grade reading level.  Each lesson begins with a vocabulary list, then a conversation, story, activity pages, and finally an answer key. The lessons are bilingual with the word lists, conversations, and stories presented in Spanish and English.  The directions for the activity pages are in Spanish but the activities are in English.  There are two dictionaries at the back of each workbook: a Spanish dictionary and an English dictionary. There is a CD available for each workbook so the student can listen to the vocabulary lists, conversations and stories in English.

Fisher Hill also has an excellent English literacy program for Spanish-speaking teens and adults who want to learn how to read and write in English.  The series has six levels.   Each leve has four workbooks:

a Reading and Spelling workbook

a Reading Comprehension workbook

a Writing Composition workbook and

a Vocabulary workbook.

 The first book to use at each level is the Reading and Spelling workbook. The program uses a very systematic, explicit approach to teaching the forty-four speech sounds used in the English language.  After completing the Reading and Spelling workbook, students are ready to practice reading by using the Reading Comprehesnion workbook.  They can also practicing writing by using the Writing Composition workbook.  The Vocabulary workbookreviews the vocabulary at each level. After completing the six levels, students will have an excellent foundation in English literacy. After clicking on Teacher Resources, then click on Reading and Spelling and scroll down until you reach the placement tests.  There are also instructions on how to use the placement tests.

Fisher Hill’s literacy program for Spanish-speaking teens and adults has six levels.  Each level contains:

an English Reading and Spelling workbook

English Reading Comprehension workbook

English Writing Composition workbook

and an English Vocabulary workbook

For each level, students need to always start with the English Reading and Spelling workbook. Then students can use the  Reading Comprehension and Writing Compsoition workbooks at that level to practice their comprehension and writing skills.  With the vocabulary workbooks, students review the vocabuary from each particulary level.

Fisher Hill has teacher resources on their website to go along with their literacy program. There are placements tests to determine on which level a student should begin.  There are Word and Sentence Practice pages to help students develop fluency.  There is a Scope and Sequence for the literacy program and Word Chains that also help with fluency.  There are also sample lessons from each workbook.

Click on Teacher Resources from the top of the web page at www.Fisher-Hill.com. Then click on Reading and Spelling.  Scroll down to see the different resources.  Toward the bottom of the scroll, you will see the Sound Spelling Placement Tests.  These tests determine on which level a student should begin the program.  Each placement test is a spelling test to determine if a student knows the sounds for that level.  A student needs to score 80% or more on a placement test to go to the next level.  The instructor reads the words from the test and the student writes the words. There is a Student Test form to write the words.

Learning English can be a family affair with Fisher Hill’s English for the Spanish Speaker workbooks. These are four easy to use workbooks. Our webpage now comes in Spanish and English! In the top right-hand corner on the home page, you can click on Español to navigate to the Spanish side.  On the Spanish side, books can only be downloaded. This way, there is no problem with shipping to other countries. The books that can be downloaded are our English for the Spanish Speaker series and the 24 workbooks from our English literacy program for Spanish-speaking teens and adults.

When students finish the six levels they will have an excellent foundation in English literacy.
