Fisher Hill and Distribution

Fisher Hill is now doing its own distribution. For 25 years, QP Distribution did this service for us.  After the death of its owner David Schafer, Fisher Hill moved all of its books from Kansas to California.  By doing our own distribution, we are able to give faster and more personalized service. We distribute English for the Spanish Speaker workbooks.

David Schafer’s Publishers Services, Inc. did our book printing for 25 years but now we are using Ben Franklin Printers that is located just 10 minutes from Fisher Hill.  Our distribution and printing are both located in Huntington Beach, CA.

Fisher Hill very much enjoyed doing business with David Schafer and we were surprised to hear about the sudden passing of this very kind and helpful person.

Fisher Hill’s new distribution telephone number is 1-888-407-1187.  Our email address is therst@icloud.com.

Go to our website at www.Fisher-Hill.com to view all of our workbooks. Adults like our workbooks because the pace is reasonable, content is for older students, print is large, and the directions are in Spanish. Teachers like our books because everything is ready to go!  There’s an answer key included in each workbook.

One of our series, English for the Spanish Speaker has been a best- selling series for over 20 years.  The workbooks have helped thousands of Spanish-speaking teens and adults learn English. There are four workbooks and each one has stories, activities, conversations, vocabulary lists, games, dictionaries and answer keys and overall, English for the Spanish Speaker .

Each workbook has a CD that can be ordered. Each CD includes the vocabulary lists, conversations, and stories from the books. Students can listen to the pronunciation of the words for each lesson.

Each workbook has eight lessons.  The lessons in workbooks 1 and 2 are about everyday themes.  Workbooks 3 and 4 have lessons about everyday themes and also lessons about U.S. history and government. These workbooks can be used to help people pass the U.S. Citizenship Test.

English for the Spanish Speaker series can also be purchased as ebooks and audios and downloaded from our website.

Public Libraries

You can find all kinds of information at public libraries.  Besides a multitude of books, they’ve got computers with fast internet, comfortable chairs for reading, and tables for doing research or work.

Many libraries have our English for the Spanish Speaker series.  Even though these workbooks are inexpensive, if you don’t have the funds to buy the series, you can check the books out from the library or use the books at the library. If you need a quiet place to concentrate and work, a table or one of thestudy corrals at the library is a good place to be. Plus, most libraries have air conditioning.  If your library doesn’t carry our English for the Spanish Speaker series, you can ask them to order the four workbooks.

English for the Spanish Speaker is afour workbook series.  Each book in the series has eight lessons.  In Books 1 and 2, the lessons are about every day activities. In Books 3 and 4, four lessons are about every day activities and the other four are about United States history or government.  The print in the workbooks is large.  The reading level in Book 1 is at the first and second grade level.  The books get progressively more difficult.  The reading level for Book 4 is at the fourth grade reading level.  Each lesson begins with a vocabulary list, then a conversation, story, activity pages, and finally an answer key. The lessons are bilingual with the word lists, conversations, and stories presented in Spanish and English.  The directions for the activity pages are in Spanish but the activities are in English.  There are two dictionaries at the back of each workbook: a Spanish dictionary and an English dictionary. There is a CD available for each workbook so the student can listen to the vocabulary lists, conversations and stories in English.

English Literacy for Spanish Speakers

Fisher Hill has an excellent English literacy series for Spanish-speaking teens and adult.  The series has six levels.  Each level has four books.  The books are workbooks.  Each level has:

a Reading and Spelling workbook

a Reading Comprehension workbook

a Writing Composition workbook

and a Vocabulary workbook

The English Reading and Spelling workbooks help Spanish speakers learn to read and spell in English.  They use a systematic approach in teaching the English speech sounds and provides practice with phonemic awareness, which is the ability to identify individual sounds and their order within words.  Learning the different speech sounds will help students read and spell in English fluently.  Eighty-five percent (85%) of words in English are phonetic.  This book also presents many of the commonly used words, called sight words, that are not phonetic.

The Reading Comprehension workbooks help Spanish speakers improve their English reading comprehension skills.  Reading comprehension is the ability to draw meaning from written words.  Each Comprehension workbook is used after finishing the English Reading and Spelling workbook in that level. Both books use the same speech sounds and high frequency words.

The Writing Composition workbooks help Spanish speakers improve their English writing skills.  The series uses a structured and systematic approach to teach the different writing skills.

The Vocabulary workbooks reinforce the vocabulary presented in each level.  The Vocabulary workbook in level one reinforces the vocabulary presented in the other three workbooks at that level.

On our website, there are placement tests to determine which level a student should begin.  A student needs a score of 80% to go to the next level.  For example, if a student gets 60% on the placement test for level one, then the student needs to begin with level one with English Reading and Spelling for the Spanish Speaker Book 1. For each level, the first book to use is the English Reading and Spelling workbook.

These placement tests can be found under Teacher Resources on our website www.Fisher-Hill.com .  Teacher Resources can be found on the top tool bar.  Click on Teacher Resources, then click on Reading and Spelling.  Then scroll down to the placement tests. The placement tests are called Sound Spelling Placement Test Book 1 and so forth.  Sound Spelling Placement Test Book 1 is for level one.
